Why didn't The Fellowship of the Ring use eagles to go to Mordor?

This topic drives us all crazy, not because we ask the question, but because those who ask it often try to annoy us.

So for once, we are going to answer it literally.

In our opinion, using the eagles would not have been possible because:

1 - Using the Eagles would have been too conspicuous and would have attracted Sauron's attention much more quickly. The Fellowship's mission was to destroy the Ring of Power without Sauron realizing it.

2 - Although the Eagles were powerful allies, Mordor was still far from Mount Doom where the Ring was to be destroyed. The journey would have been long and perilous, exposing the Eagles to many dangers, including attacks by the Nazgûl.

3 - In Tolkien's mythology, the Eagles are powerful creatures who are under the authority of Manwë, the ruler of the Valar. They are not simply air taxis for the heroes, but act according to their own will and according to the plans of the Valar.

4 - From a narrative perspective, using the Eagles would have short-circuited a lot of the plot and adventure. The story would have been much less complex and rich if the heroes had simply flown to Mordor. The quest for the Ring is also a story of courage, sacrifice, and friendship, themes that would have been less developed if the Eagles had been the obvious solution from the beginning.
